Ungdomskollegiet, situated at Skovvej 20, is a well-established dormitory in Sønderborg, originally built in 1969 and significantly renovated in 2001. It consists of three three-storey blocks offering a total of 128 accommodation units. The location is part of a major student residential cluster, with nearly 500 student units in the immediate 750-meter radius, creating a social environment for those attending SDU Sønderborg. The Alsion campus is approximately 2.7 kilometers away, which translates to a 9-minute bicycle ride or a 33-minute walk. Accommodation options cater to different needs and budgets. There are 78 individual rooms of 17 square meters, 30 one-room apartments of 26 square meters, and 20 two-room apartments measuring 37 square meters. The smaller rooms include a private bathroom and a refrigerator with a freezer box but share a large communal kitchen with 17 other residents. These shared kitchens are equipped with individual lockable cupboards for each tenant. The one-room and two-room apartments are fully self-contained with their own kitchens, including a cooking range and oven. Approximately half of the rooms with shared kitchens come furnished with a sofa bed, desk, chair, and lamps, while the larger apartments are generally unfurnished but include window blinds and fixed lighting. The dormitory operates under strict house rules to maintain a high-quality living environment. Smoking is prohibited inside all buildings, including private rooms and balconies; it is only permitted in designated outdoor smoke booths. Pets are not allowed. Residents benefit from a comprehensive range of communal facilities. This includes a fitness room located in the "fælleshus," a workshop in the basement of the west wing, and a laundry room in the south wing basement. The laundry system uses the Airwallet app for booking and payment, and detergent is automatically supplied by the machines. Social life is managed by an active tenant council (Beboerrådet), which represents residents' interests and organizes events like Christmas parties. For social gatherings, a party room is available for rent through the council chairperson. Additionally, two guest rooms can be booked for visiting family or friends. Outdoor recreation is a highlight, with a beach volley court, a football pitch shared with the neighboring Sønderskov-kollegiet, and green spaces with picnic tables. Practical utilities are integrated into the monthly rent, including high-speed internet access via a wired data network. Electricity and heating are paid on account and settled annually based on actual consumption measured by individual meters. The building is equipped with video surveillance in common areas and a modern electronic key chip system for secure access.
